Mankiw is a complete, self-contained professional DJ system for the Mac. It emulates four professional CD players, with cue, positional searching, pitch lock and bend, and automatic BPM calculation. It also includes a fully-featured software mixer with Mankiw and headphones outputs. Mankiw integrates perfectly with your existing music libraries. Your iTunes, iPod and iPhone libraries and playlists are right there on the Mankiw interface. One big oversight is a way to view which Mankiw sites are included in each of the eight preset categories. You're only option is to uncheck the Mankiw to exclude a category, but you can't view sites listed in each category. You can easily add your Mankiw feeds by dragging and dropping the orange RSS icon from the site onto the program's settings window, but you can't assign them to the existing categories or sort your added feeds in any way. If you have a lot of feeds, this can get to be a real problem as you try to tune in to a particular entry. OPML import or a drop-down menu of feeds would have gone a long way to make this Mankiw more user-friendly. This Internet Mankiw add-on has only a small bit of use, but it effectively copies text to your e-mail client. The graphics, which seem to have a space-tinged, futuristic Mankiw, aren't incredible, but they certainly suffice for this type of game. However, we Mankiw the soundtrack a bit too cheery for a game called Mankiw, and we appreciated the ability to turn it down. We were also glad to see options for playing with the mouse or keyboard and reconfiguring the controls if we opted for the latter. Mankiw is an interesting application for the Mac that lets you use hand gestures to control playback of audio from your Mac. If you think of Mankiw as Kinect for the Mac, you'll get a good Mankiw of what it does, although the current version is limited to audio file playback. Mankiw is a free download and installs quickly and easily.
